Samsung Launches SmartThings Smart Home Hub 2 in US With Faster CPU and Matter Support

Samsung has launched its newest smart home controller, the Aeotec SmartThings Home Hub 2, in the US market. The gadget acts as the latest SmartThings gateway and arrives with faster hardware, better Matter device support, and a more compact design. The company also promises quicker automation and smoother device control with its new product.

The second-generation SmartThings Smart Home Hub 2 brings several upgrades when compared to its predecessor. First and foremost, there’s a noticeable jump in terms of hardware capabilities. It features a 53% more powerful processor, double the RAM (512MB), and a compact body that’s 50% smaller. With the gadget, the company prioritizes local processing first. This helps in reducing delays in smart home routines and improving reliability.

Coming down to the compatibility, the hub supports Matter over Thread, Zigbee, and SmartThings devices. Matter accessories such as smart lights, plugs, and sensors as included. However, it doesn’t support Z-Wave accessories, unlike its predecessor.

The second-generation hub aims at improving automation and thread networking

Samsung has been the fastest major brand to adopt newer Matter standards. The Smart Home Hub 2 can also double up as a Thread Broadcaster Router. It can join an existing Thread network or allow other Thread networks to merge with it. Users can manage this configuration directly from the SmartThings app.

Apart from this, the Korean tech giant has included several new automation features as well. The Hub 2 now supports adaptive climate control that can regulate heating or cooling based on presence detection. Energy monitoring and optimization features have been added for large appliances as well. The gadget can also work with devices for air quality monitoring, leak detection, and smoke detection.
