Beeper, the app infamous for trying to bring iMessage to Android, is picking up some updates that include more Material 3 Expressive support on Android, as well as Google Voice integration.
While Beeper was best known for iMessage support, the app is still useful for rounding up all of your messaging apps in one place. The latest extension to that is Google Voice, with Beeper using its on-device connections to allow Google Voice to be routed through its app. This is the first new addition to Beeper’s integration list in quite a while, and joins Google Messages and Google Chat in being supported.
Beyond that, the Beeper app for Android is picking up some visual improvements.
Beeper now supports more customization options, including support for Material 3 Expressive colors. Users can also select a custom color option if they want.
Beeper explains:
Many of you have asked for more customization options. We’ve now baked in more options under Settings → Appearance on Android:
- “Custom” allows you to select any color you want
- “Expressive Colors” uses Google’s new M3 Expressive color system from 2025
- “High Contrast” increases distinction between colors for readability
- “Pure Black” will take background colors that are close to black and make them actually black, which should be kinder to your battery if you’ve got an OLED screen
Recent updates have also added “bidirectional typing indicators support for Google Messages and Instagram,” custom emoji in Telegram, and an option to mark chats as read whenever they’re archived.
